Volkswagen has just launched the face-lifted version of its immensely popular hatchback, the Polo. This isn’t a hurried, half-baked face-lift job but instead, the car has received pretty extensive changes throughout. The Volkswagen Cross Polo, Polo TSI and Polo GT TDI will follow soon.
Walk around the car and the alterations are clear to see. The front grille is new and it now has just a single, thin strip of chrome running along its length. Further below, the foglamps are new as well and there is a chrome band that runs the entire width of the car. The alloys are new as well, but they still look understated in typical VW style.
There is also a bright reddish orange paint job available on the new car. Step inside and the biggest change one notices will be the new 3 spoke steering wheel with audio and phone controls incorporated into it. That and the new centre console with aluminium finish surrounds. The spokes of the steering wheel are finished in glossy black and add a touch of flair to it.
One of the main reasons the Volkswagen Polo has seen so much success all over the globe is its fantastic performance. Hardly any other cars in its segment drive in such an involving and zippy manner. With the new car, it seems to be a case of new dog, old tricks. The trusty old 1.2 litre MPi petrol engine will be carried over to the new car but, in addition to that, it also gets a new 1.5 litre, 89 bhp diesel engine. This engine also has the added benefit of returning an ARAI-certified 20.14 kpl. The Polo GT TDI gets the same engine in another state of tune that generates 103.5 bhp and it returns 19.91 kpl. The Polo GT TSI has a 7 speed DSG gearbox and a 1.5 litre petrol engine that also makes 103.5 bhp and returns 17.21 kpl.
The 1.2 litre petrol variant will range between INR 4.99 lakhs and INR 6.07 lakhs and the 1.5 litre diesel version will set you back between INR 6.27 lakhs and INR 7.37 lakhs (all prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi) depending on the variant. Taking everything into consideration, the new Volkswagen Polo seems poised to pick up where its predecessor left off and continue the success story.
