New Volkswagen Polo Facelift Vs Honda Amaze Vs Maruti Swift

Ever since, compact sedans have entered our market, they have become a big threat to premium hatchbacks. Their similar body dimensions, engine capacities and pricing makes it quite difficult for you to choose which one to go for.

Today, Volkswagen has launched the face-lifted version of their premium hatchback, Polo which has been a tough competitor for two segment stalwarts; Swift from its own segment and Honda Amaze from the compact sedan segment. Does this updated car give enough reasons for these two to worry? Let's check out.

VW has replaced the 1.2L, 3-cylinder diesel engine of Polo with a new and more powerful 1.5L 89bhp engine equipped with a 5-speed gearbox which now makes it more powerful than Swift however the 1.2 L petrol unit has been carried forward from the predecessor. Swift with its 1.3L diesel engine produces a power output of 74bhp whereas Amaze features a 1.5L 98bhp diesel engine; both of these are also equipped with 5-speed gearbox.

Unlike its previous gen, new Polo comes with improved features including new music system with steering mounted controls, Bluetooth connectivity, SD card reader, USB, Aux-in compatibility, 4-speakers and with new metallic finish around it.

The dual tone dashboard, leather wrapped steering wheel, gear knob and plastic material used inside Polo looks far better than Amaze and feels quite premium in comparison to Swift. VW has also changed the color of instrument console from Red to white which adds bit freshness to it.

Both Amaze nor Swift lack the premium feel that you get in Polo. Polo and Swift ride on 15 inche wheels but Amaze is only available with 14 inches wheel and that also shows in their performance as well. Dual front airbags come standard in the new Polo whereas Amaze comes equipped with ABS and EBD but in Swift, these both safety features are only available in its top variant.

The petrol and diesel version of new Polo starts from as low as INR 4.99lakhs and INR 6.27lakhs respectively and goes all the way to INR 6.07lakhs and INR7.37lakhs for their respective top variants.

Whereas the base prices for the petrol and diesel versions of Amaze is INR 4.99lakhs and 5.97lakhs while its INR 4.42lakhs and 5.46lakhs for Swift. The top variants of Amaze and Swift diesel will cost you around INR 7.49lakhs and INR 6.70 respectively. (All prices ex-showroom, Delhi)

As you can see, the new Polo is surely an improved car than before and comes with a very competitive price tag which dents the market space of both its competitors. Keeping the price brackets of all three cars in mind, it now becomes a big question because it’s only you who has to decide whether to pay for an additional boot or for a premium hatchback. Whatever it is the new Polo could be the new premium hatch king...
