2014 Fiat Punto Facelift vs Rivals, Launch 25th July

By   |   18 July,2014

Fiat will be launching its Punto Evo hatchback within a few days and we have some details and new images. The Punto Evo is a facelift and has a new design with a new interior (as on the new Fiat Linea). The engine line-up represents diesel and petrol with the diesel engine available with two different power outputs.

The big changes are of course the new found aggressiveness of the Punto. The new front with a big grille and the new sweptback headlamps along with a dollop of chrome means you will not mistake it for anything else. Plus the new colour adds to the freshness. The side view is left untouched and the rear gets subtle changes like more chrome added and new tail-lamps.

Inside and you can see we have the top-end Sport variants with black interiors which look good and are sporty. The dash is lifted from the new Linea and so is the other new bits. Equipment levels have been improved and the Punto Evo also gets rear ac vents. Space is the same though.

There is of course the talk of rivals and the main rival would be the new Volkswagen Polo which has been just launched. The Polo and Punto have got an enthusiast following due to the looks and performance plus the quality. The Polo of course has the advantage of having its GT range also.

However it is not just the Polo as the premium hatch space will soon have a lot of new cars. There is the new Swift to deal with which will be coming soon and while the new Swift will not have much change it is perhaps the biggest threat to every other hatch including the Punto.

Along with the Maruti Swift Hyundai will have the new i20 within a few months as well with new styling and even more kit on offers. If that is not enough Honda will be bringing the new Jazz too.

Thus the new Punto Evo is not short of rivals and another factor is that the emergence of the compact sedan segment has slowed premium hatch sales. We think the new styling and features make the new Punto Evo a desirable car and no doubt Fiat loyalists will love it but Fiat needs to price it aggressively and market it well.
