German automotive giant Mercedes-Benz has just launched the CLA45 AMG in India today. This sedan is the AMG-tuned version of the CLA-Class sedan. During today———s launch, the company announced that it will be launching the standard CLA in India within the next 6 months.
The impending launch of the Mercedes-Benz CLA can be seen as a direct response to Audi releasing the A3 sedan in India. The CLA will take its place as the least expensive sedan from Mercedes-Benz that one can buy in India, a spot held so far by the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The car has the CLA45 AMG———s beautiful styling features like the pillarless doors, fancy tail lights, strong front end and the declining roofline.
The standard CLA will be available in both diesel and petrol avatars for Indian customers. The engines will be the same units that power the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class hatchbacks. The 2.2 litre diesel engine generates 107 bhp and a peak torque output of 250 Nm.
The petrol engine is a smaller 1.6 litre unit that develops 121 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. Both these engines will come mated to a 7 speed, dual clutch automatic transmission. Top speed figure for the petrol variant is 202 kph and for the diesel is 190 kph.
