The new gen Scorpio has finally come out of covers and is open to all. Mahindra has smartly worked on the new Scorpio not only in terms of exterior and interior changes but also on its positioning. The new Scorpio with six variants namely S2,S4,S6,S6 Plus,S8 and S10 has been wisely positioned in the entry level SUV segment which has recently seen intense competition. Scorpio carry forwards its engine line-up from its predecessor which means you still get to choose from two diesel engines. However, the 2.5L with a power output of 75bhp will only be available in the base variant, S2 which comes standard with AC, power steering, power windows, central locking and 15inches wheel. This variant is only aimed to attract first time SUV buyers keeping all the basic requirements in place.
Rest of the variants are available with the 2.2L, 120bhp mHawk diesel engine. The S4 variant in addition to the features of S2 variant gets bigger 17inch wheels and tilt adjustable steering wheel. The biggest USP of this variant is its availability with an optional 4-wheel drive shift on fly system.
It's only in the S6 variant that you get body colored ORVMs, door handles, bumpers, cladding and rear spoiler. You will also see sky racks, a rear wiper and defogger at the back while inside you will see addition of fabric upholstery, 2-DIN audio system, armrest, sliding middle row seat and remote central locking along with all the features of S4.
This variant is exclusively for those who are happy with all the comfort features mentioned till now but look for a bit more safety features. Keeping safety perspective in mind, Mahindra has added ABS and dual front airbags in this variant to provide more safety to its customers.
Projector headlights, electrically adjustable ORVMs, 17inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps and silver skid plate are some of the exterior features which debuts in this variant over previous variants. S8 continues with all features of S6 Plus and additionally gets Voice Assist, intellipark with rear parking sensors and speed alert system.
In addition to S8, on the outside, you will get LED eyebrows in its static bending technology equipped projector headlights with follow me home headlamps. The front grille gets chrome finishing while some chrome treatment can be seen inside around its a.c vents. The comfort feature list gets enhanced with addition of features such as cruise control, fully automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system with GPS and steering mounted audio controls. You will also get other premium feature such as light and rain sensors, height adjustable driver's seat and tyre pressure warning system. This range topping variant is also available with 4-wheel drive system.
The new features make Scorpio a modern age SUV which is also available with premium safety features and advanced four wheel drive system. The S4 variant with 4X4 system is especially for those who look for a solid off road yet modern SUV which has all the basic comfort features at a reasonable price. This variant is Mahindra's answer to Duster AWD while its top model S10 with 4X4 system will act as a pit stop for those Mahindra SUV lovers who want a Mahindra 4X4 SUV but certainly not as premium as XUV 500 AWD.
