Come November and India will receive the new versions of the Mini Cooper hatchback and the Mini 5-door. The hatchback will continue to be sold in the form of the Cooper and Cooper S and the 5-door is a completely new vehicle altogether. The modifications that the Mini Cooper has received are quite significant. While Mini has altered the looks extensively, the changes run a lot deeper as well. It is longer, wider and taller than before and has a longer wheelbase as well. This results in a more capacious interior and a bigger boot. Customers can also select from an all new set of engines to power their cars.
The Mini Cooper will be driven by a 1.5 litre, 3 cylinder petrol engine that develops 135 bhp and the Mini Cooper S will have a larger 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder petrol engine that pumps out 191 bhp. The Cooper S diesel will be powered by a 4 cylinder diesel motor that puts out 168 bhp. Even the 6 speed manual and the 6 speed Steptronic automatic gearboxes are new; although, the Minis coming to India will most likely be automatics only.
The Mini Cooper and Countryman had a pretty good reception in India with driving enthusiasts who could also afford to fork out the money required. Small wonder really; with these cars being known to be incredibly fun-to-drive pocket rockets, who would not want one on their driveway?
