Not so long ago, we published an article reporting the imminent launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift. As we all know, small and sensible hatchbacks are all the rage in India and the buzz surrounding the just launched new Swift corroborates this fact.
The new Swift gets a lot more kit than its predecessor, features such as push button engine ignition, rear parking sensors, audio system with Bluetooth support, power retractable rear view mirrors, front fog-lamps with silver surrounds, new alloy wheels and so on. However the now iconic shape has not been messed with.
Under the bonnet, there are no changes and the new Swift will continue to be powered by either the 1.2 litre, 83 bhp petrol or the 1.3 litre diesel motors. Power will be channelled by a 5 speed manual transmission and an automatic gearbox might be available from next year onwards. The engines have been tuned to be more efficient. The diesel engine returns an ARAI-certified fuel economy figure of 25.2 kpl and the petrol unit gives 20.4 kpl, also rated by ARAI.
Pricing information (ex-showroom, New Delhi) for this car has also been put out and are as follows ———
