Automatic cars are in great demand nowadays in our market and AMT technology is one big reason for this popularity. The AMT cars are more affordable than conventional automatic cars and yet offer you the comfort of auto transmission. Yes, AMT gearboxes are not smooth in comparison to the conventional auto gearboxes but they also save you a good amount of money as well. And that is the reason why this trend of AMT which was started by Maruti Celerio is now being followed by other manufacturers as well. Many auto makers are targeting this technology for their popular models to make them even more desirable by increasing their value for money factor. Here is list of such six upcoming cars which will soon have AMT technology in our market for wider reach of customers.
1. Renault Kwid
Renault first introduced their first AMT gearbox in Duster and now is the turn of their jackpot product, Kwid. The Kwid will soon be launched with the powerful 1.0L engine which will have the option of AMT gearbox. The Kwid is already quite popular in its class due to its SUV type looks, space and first in class features and the addition of AMT gearbox with a powerful engine will only make this car more practical and successful in our market. Moreover the car will have new features as well which will further extend its reach and surely it could become the best AMT car ever launched by Renault. The bookings for the 1.0L version have already started and soon the AMT variant will follow.
2. Datsun Redi-Go
The Redi-Go is basically the Datsun badged version of Kwid which is technically same as Kwid but looks completely different. The funky looks of this car is its biggest USP and people have already started falling for its design as this car will surely prove to be the life saver of Datsun in India. The car which currently shares its 53bhp, 800c engine with Kwid is expected to share the same powerful 1.0L engine of Kwid with AMT as well and will be priced competitively to take on Kwid as well as on Alto K10 which is currently the best selling AMT car in India.
3. Tata Tiago
Tiago is also a life saver car which has come up as a new ray of hope for Tata after a very long time. The car has been warmly accepted in our market due to its new age styling, features and new set of engines. The diesel version of this car with 1.0L, 69bhp diesel engine is in demand and that engine is likely to be served with an AMT gearbox. Tata has already been serving Zest with AMT gearbox so it should not be a problem for them to offer Tiago with an AMT gearbox. This addition of AMT could happen by early next year.
4. Tata Kite 5
The car has not been launched yet but it is very likely that this car will debut with the same AMT gearbox that we are talking about the Tiago. Basically, the Kite 5 is the code name of the sub-four meter sedan of Tata which is based on Tiago and this car is likely to replace Indigo eCS in our market. This car will have the same set of engines and features as Tiago and will become the most affordable diesel AMT sedan in India. This car is expected to launch by end of this year giving new option to those who want an affordable yet practical family sedan.
5. Maruti Suzuki Ignis
This is one big project of Maruti which will be placed as a replacement of Ritz in our market. The car will be positioned below Baleno and will be sold through Nexa dealerships. The box shaped styling of this car is its USP and it is expected to become the safest car in its class. This car will debut with the first in class AMT gearboxes for its petrol as well as diesel engine. It will share its 1.2L, 83bhp petrol and 1.3L, 74bhp diesel engine with Baleno but with optional AMT gearboxes. The Ignis will have all premium features as well which will make it a great value for money car. The car could be launched by early next year.
6. Maruti Vitara Brezza
Maruti is also readying their AMT version of Vitara Brezza to be mated with the 1.3L 89bhp diesel engine. This will be the same set-up as seen in the Dzire and there are chances that looking at the popularity of top model of Brezza, Maruti may offer the AMT in top variant only. But to deal with its rival, TUV300 which is also equipped with an AMT gearbox, Maruti may offer lower trims as well with the AMT. It will be interesting to see how Maruti positions this variant after they speed up their production capacity for this model which is currently the highest selling SUV in India.
7. Hyundai Grand i10
The Grand i10 is currently the most successful model of Hyundai in India and in order to maintain their dominance, they are getting ready to launch the facelift model of Grandi10 along with a 5-speed AMT gearbox. This AMT gearbox will be equipped with an all new 1.2L diesel engine which will be more powerful than the 1.1L, 71bhp of the current model. There will addition of few features as well making it a great package. There is no hatchback as of now which is available in our market to offer diesel engine with an AMT gearbox. Expect slight bump in the price of new model bringing it in the league of its rivals like, Maruti Swift which will also be updated next year.
8. Renault Lodgy
Renault has been struggling to gain momentum with their only MPV, Lodgy in our market and to improve their situation; Renault is planning to launch the AMT version of Lodgy. This will not be a difficult task for Renault as they are already selling the Duster with their AMT gearbox and Lodgy also shares it engine with the Duster. This step will surely widen the reach of Lodgy in our market but pricing will also play a key factor because Lodgy is already not in much demand and if it becomes unreasonably expensive with an AMT then things will not get better by any chance. Expect this MPV to launch with this AMT gearbox soon.
9. Nissan Terrano AMT
Nissan will finally give its Terrano SUV an AMT option. It will also take this opportunity to do some cosmetic tweaks which include a new look front along with new features inside. The AMT gearbox though is the same used by its sister car- the Duster. It is the six-speed Easy-R which will be offered only on the top-end trim level along with the 110 bhp diesel.
10. Mahindra KUV100 AMT
Mahindra provides an AMT option for its TUV and NuvoSport but the KUV does not have it and that will change. The diesel KUV will get the same AMT gearbox as the TUV and expect the prices to increase aswell over the manual variant.
