The battle it seems is on and currently the winner is the new Ciaz. In the month of October Maruti sold 6345 units of the Ciaz in comparison to 5120 units of Honda City. This new midsize sedan from Maruti has got 17,000 bookings since launch indicating positive customer response.
This is indeed good news for Maruti that the Ciaz has got off to a good start. Unlike the SX4 the Ciaz crucially has everything that was required to become a success including headline grabbing efficiency figures, healthy features list and competitive pricing. The biggest reason for the better performance of the Ciaz over the previous SX4 includes a diesel engine which initially was not available on the SX4.
In the coming months it will be more interesting since starting November, the Tapukara plant will start operations in the second shift which means there would be better availability of the new City. So for now the Ciaz is the new king but the City will also put up a big fight. Ciaz starts at Rs 6.99 lakh while City starts at Rs 7.20 lakh. The Maruti Ciaz has a 1.4 petrol and a 1.3 diesel engine with a 4-speed automatic option along with a standard 5-speed manual.
