The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the new Mahindra Scorpio and the Hyundai Elite i20 are all recent entrants into the Indian automotive scene and all these cars have given their manufacturers reason to smile about.
It has been barely a month since the Ciaz was let loose on Indian roads and Maruti Suzuki has already received a staggering 17,000 bookings. This sedan, with its 1.4 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel engines, generous feature list and roomy interiors offers an ideal upgrade to customers who already own hatchbacks or small sedans. This car looks dignified and coupled with Maruti Suzukis legendary service network, the Ciaz seems poised to begin another successful innings for Indias most familiar car maker.
Another vehicle that has been around for a similar amount of time is the all new Mahindra Scorpio. Mahindra has garnered in excess of 12,000 bookings for this new SUV. In a first, interested buyers could actually book the car on SnapDeal, the e-commerce store, through online payment. Powering the base variant of the Scorpio is a 2.5 litre, 75 bhp diesel engine while the higher variants are driven by a 2.2 litre, 120 bhp motor.
The Hyundai Elite i20 was a hugely anticipated vehicle that was launched in August and the level of interest for this car was clear to see. In the 3 months it has been on sale in Indian showrooms, the Elite i20 has picked up over 41,000 bookings. Under the bonnet of this car is either a 1.2 litre petrol or a 1.4 litre diesel motor coupled to a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission respectively. With its striking looks, lengthy feature list and a wide service network backing it up, the Elite i20 was sure to be a runaway hit.
