Maruti Suzuki's upcoming SUV, SX4 S-Cross has been caught testing by us and while clicking some pics of the S-Cross we also uncovered some details. The SX4 S-Cross was shown to us at the Auto Expo 2014 and while it looks small in pictures in the flesh it is quite big. The S-Cross has an overall length of 4,300mm with a wheelbase of 2,600mm.
However in comparison to SUVs like the Renault Duster (its chief rival), the S-Cross simply lacks presence which could be its biggest disadvantage. The crossover styling is interesting when viewed from the front with some familiar Suzuki styling cues while wheel arch mouldings, skid plates and integrated roof rails liven up the somewhat bland side and rear.
Inside we expect Maruti to give us lighter colours instead of the black as seen in the interior pic. It is again a familiar design with some bits shared with the Swift/Swift Dzire. We expect the S-Cross to be spacious as the distance between front and rear occupants is 814mm.
The luggage capacity with all seats up is 430 litres. Engine options include a 1.6 petrol and a 1.6 diesel with the petrol having a 5-speed manual and the diesel having a 6-speed manual. There is also a CVT gearbox for the petrol. Interestingly Maruti also plans to bring in the 4WD variant.
We expect prices to be around Rs 12-13 lakh which means the S-Cross will not have it easy to compete with the likes of the Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster and others. But it is certainly a better offering than the Grand Vitara which was destined to fail since day 1 due to its petrol only status.
