Hyundai has been recently giving one after another hit cars in our market. Elite i20 is the latest one to join their fleet. With its pricing it finds itself competing with other sub four meter sedans including its own sibling, Xcent. Now, the problem is that if a buyer has made up his mind to buy a Hyundai car within a certain fixed price bracket, then he/she ends up facing the i20 right against the Xcent and here, we come to rescue. Which one to go for? Read on to make your choice.
Both cars follow the fluidic design scheme of Hyundai and looks far modern than their respective competitors but shares common styling bits such as sharp and noticeable body lines, hexagonal front grille, stretched headlights and similar diamond cut alloy wheels design. Xcent is based on Grandi10 and looks almost similar till its B-pillar where it wears an additional boot which puts it into an all different segment.
Hyundai Elite i20 is just 10mm shorter in length than Xcent but has far more noticeable presence thanks to its wide and sporty stance. The wrap around design at the back, blacked C-pillar, flat roof and bigger 16 inche wheels adds to the visual charm of this car. If you plan to choose by exterior looks than Xcent surely stands aside if compared to Elite i20 which has a very dynamic and eye catching identity.
If we talk about technical aspects then also you will find both cars nearly in same territory. Both the Hyundai Elite i20 and Xcent are powered by the same 1.2L , 4-cylinder Kappa petrol unit which is good for 82bhp and performs almost similar in both cars. The only and the biggest difference which differentiates them is the optional four speed automatic gearbox which is only available in Xcent and gives it an advantage over Elite i20 as it comes with a regular five speed manual gearbox.
If Xcent has an advantage with the petrol unit then its i20 which stands nose ahead than Xcent with its diesel engine. Unlike Xcent 3-cylinder 1.1L diesel engine which produces 71bhp, i20 is powered by a more powerful 1.4L,4-cylinder 90bhp engine which comes equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox over the five speed manual gearbox of Xcent. There is considerable difference in their performance as well, i20 is far more enthusiastic and fun to drive car if compared to Xcent.
From inside as well both cars look premium and are stuffed with features which makes it further difficult for you to choose. Both cars share many features such as push button start, rear a.c vents, multifunction steering wheel mounted with phone and audio controls, automatic climate control, Dual front airbags, 2-Din music system with 1GB storage space, Bluetooth connectivity, rear parking camera and electronically retractable side mirrors. Both cars stand neck to neck if we talk about top variants in terms of features but it's Xcent which has more features if we compare it variants wise with Elite i20.
If an auto gearbox is your priority then your choice is quite clear but if you look for a manual variant then you have to choose wisely. If we talk about the entry level petrol variants of both these cars having same engine specs then they are priced at INR 4.66lakhs and 4.89lakhs respectively. Both cars share almost similar number of features if you go variant wise and have very narrow price gap. The top petrol variant of Xcent priced at INR 6.51lakhs is merely 4K costlier than the Asta variant of Elite i20 while the lower variants are also distinguished by similar price gaps. The story is a bit different with diesel though as the top end variants of Xcent and i20 costs around INR 7.43lakhs and 7.67lakhs while their base variants come for INR 5.58lakhs and INR 6.10lakhs respectively (all prices, ex-showroom,Delhi).
If it's going to be the only car in family then it is undoubtedly the Hyundai Xcent as it offers good space for rear passengers and can easily carry a family's luggage for a weekend or long journeys in its boot which has a capacity of 407 litres. Moreover, it will be easy on pocket as well thanks to its fuel efficient diesel engine. It comes with all required features including premium ones and looks quite decent too. Both its engines are good in city run as well and thus makes it a practical choice if you often go around with family but if that's not the case with you then look no further than i20.
The car really has the looks to charm anyone on roads and will get you the much needed attention. The diesel engine also performs best in class and makes this car completely enjoyable. It's stuffed with premium features and will surely suit your personality. The performance, looks and the style statement makes Elite i20 one of the finest hatches available in our market which has its own identity and belongs to those only who pay premium because they don't want to be categorized as any other sub-four meter sedan owner on our crowded roads.
