After starting online bookings for their upcoming hatchback, Bolt, Tata motors have now confirmed that they will be launching the car on 22nd January, 2015. The Bolt will be Tata's first real attempt to take on its prime rivals including the segment leader, Maruti Suzuki, Swift. Based on the Vista platform, Bolt is the hatch version of their sub-four-meter sedan, Zest. Without doubt Bolt is an important launch after the Zest which has been doing strong numbers month on month.
The Bolt will be served with a 1.2L turbocharged Revotron engine which has a power and torque output of 89bhp and 140Nm respectively. This engine can be used in three different modes depending upon the driving conditions. It will be also be available with a 74bhp, 1.3L Multijet diesel engine. Initially, there will be no option of automatic transmission in Bolt like the Zest as both of its engines will come equipped with five-speed manual gearboxes. Knowing Tata Motors and with the Zest, we expect an aggressive price tag on Bolt and will surely under-cut its rivals by a significant margin which then Bolt really has the qualities to become a strong seller in the competitive premium hatch space.
