While the Indian car buyer still hasn't come to terms with the concept of Hybrids, we have seen some launches been taking place. Toyota Camry Hybrid for one plus BMW launching the hybrid 7- Series. For the Camry since there is no diesel the Hybrid makes sense and same for the new Sonata as the Hybrid will only increase the desirability and practicality of the Sonata in place of petrol only model. Along with the Hybrid, Hyundai also revealed its first plug-in hybrid vehicle at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and can go up to 22 miles on electric power and can recharge in as little as two and a half hours with a Level 2 charger.
However let us concentrate on the Hybrid new Sonata and the main talking point here is the 2.0-liter engine combined with an electric motor gives an output of 193 hp. So this results in improvement in the fuel efficiency of the Sonata ( upto 10 percent) over the 2.4 variant. What this means is that this luxury sedan does about 18 kmpl combined which is quite good for such a big car and a big change over the regular petrol Sonata.
Other changes include the battery which has more capacity plus it is located underneath the boot floor that increases boot space. Styling wise the new Sonata Hybrid gets some changes like a bigger front grille, bumpers and wheels. There are also more features. We can expect the new Sonata this year along with many other important launches and the new Sonata Hybrid sure does make sense for India.
