Ashok Leyland, one of the most recognised commercial vehicle brands in India, has released their first, zero emission, electric bus at the SIAM Bus and Special Vehicle Show 2015 at Greater Noida, outside New Delhi. This new vehicle is called the Versa EV, from its UK wing, Optare PLC.
Ideal for feeder, airport tarmac and intra-city applications, the Versa EV, a low floor electric bus, has no emissions whatsoever and hardly any noise thanks to its electric motor. The Versa EV can accommodate up to 44 seats and is available in length of 9.7m, 10.4m, 11.1m and 11.8m and can match the performance of a similar diesel vehicle. This bus boasts of an aesthetically designed body, roomy interiors, mechanically controlled air suspension, seat mounted stanchions, regenerative braking, integrated charging points and on-board WiFi connectivity. It also comes equipped with a wide door, dedicated space for wheelchair access and a foldable ramp as well.
