Though the India debut for Kia Motors is a few years away, we cannot resist crystal ballgazing and one of the cars that we see coming from the Kia stable is the Soul. We have talked about the new Rio hatch before and the soul is one of the most unique cars that Kia makes. The Soul is in the same mould as the Renault Kwid and Maruti Ignis but bigger with a length of just above 4m and with a decent ground clearance giving it a crossover stance. The boxy looks just like the Ignis makes it look much bigger than it is and the funky styling has been a hit too.
The first gen model made its debut in 2008 and the basic styling has been kept the same with an evolutionary design theme. The interior is typically Kia and looks busier than any of the Hyundai interiors with a funky steering wheel and lots of nice detailing. The interior design in many details is similar to a Mini Cooper. Due to its boxy looks the headroom is very good and its decent in space with good storage. In other markets the Soul comes with 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines along with a turbo petrol but for India again its too early to say what will come.
On first impressions the Kia Soul looks to be an interesting car and do note that it is among the best selling cars in the Kia range and hugely. In India too the Kia Soul holds huge potential but as we have said earlier, it a long time away.
