While the Jeep brand has been launched in India, the big launch is coming next year in form of the Compass. It has been announced that the Compass would be built in four countries including India and that we can expect an India launch around July 2017. To further substantiate that, we have here images of the Compass testing in India along with the Renegade. The Renegade has been spied testing many times before but it is not coming to India. In terms of dimensions the Compass is similar to something like a Hyundai Tucson yet looks less like a crossover and has more presence than any of its rivals.
The implementation of traditional Jeep styling cues gives it an advantage of being more of a rugged SUV. It exudes a shrunken Grand Cherokee vibe with the seven-slat grille and squared off wheel arches. Clearly looks would be one of the USPs of the Compass. The Compass is based on Renegade architecture and comes with a longer 2.4-inch longer wheelbase which means in terms of space the Compass would offer enough.
In terms of features it has the fourth-generation Uconnect system with touchscreen includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto with a 7inch instrument cluster and an 8.4 inch touchscreen. Other features would include powered tailgate, electric handbrake, powered seats etc.
Worldwide the Compass would come with five engine options but for India expect two- a 1.4 petrol and 2.0 diesel with manual and automatic being available on both. Of course while the range starter would be a 2WD model but off-roading is a core part of Jeep DNA and it is what Jeep is known for, thus it would push 4WD with the Compass also. The SelecTerrain 4x4 system would be offered with four modes. It is official that the Compass will come in three trim levels- Sport, Longitude and Limited with aggressive pricing. Clearly then the Jeep Compass is one of the big launches to watch out for next year.
