After its much awaited entry into the Indian automotive space a few months ago, American manufacturer Jeep has announced that it will be launching the petrol versions of their Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUVs in India next month.
The engine powering the Wrangler petrol will be a 3.6 litre V6 that pumps out 285 hp and 353 Nm of torque. It sends its power to all 4 wheels via a 5 speed automatic transmission. The Grand Cherokee also gets the same engine under its bonnet but, for this vehicle, the motor has been up-rated to generate 395 hp. The Grand Cherokee has all wheel drive as well, which receives its power through an 8 speed automatic gearbox.
The list of features of both the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler are not expected to vary from that already available in their diesel versions. The Wrangler petrol will continue to be sold in its Unlimited trim level with 5 doors. The best part about introducing these iconic SUVs with petrol motors is the fact that they will be priced lower by anywhere between INR 15-20 lakhs lower than their diesel counterparts, considering that the Wrangler is available on sale for prices starting from INR 71.59 lakhs and the Grand Cherokee can be bought for INR 93.64 lakhs (all prices are ex-showroom figures).
