It may not look like it but the Ford EcoSport has been around for a long time now and while the radical design which helped it become a massive success, still remains a big selling point, it is time for a refresh. This then is the new EcoSport which the US market will get but we will also have it in India next year. What is different? Let us compare the new one with the current model.
As far as facelifts go this is a big one and changes the front of the car completely. The new headlamps, foglamps and grille are in sync with the current Ford SUV design language being much more aggressive than the current EcoSport. There are not many changes to the side but the rear, as you can see, does away with tailgate mounted spare. It remains to be seen whether Ford will go for that in India as that is one of its strong design points. There are sharper looking new alloys on offer along with new colours. Overall the new EcoSport looks much better and sharper, getting our vote.
More than the exteriors the interiors have gotten a radical makeover- something which was needed. It brings it up-to date with the competition and we say it goes ahead. The interior is completely new with a new steering wheel, dash, instruments, doors etc. There is a massive touchscreen infotainment system with latest Ford SYNC 3 plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with a healthy dose of other gadgets. Space is the same but it has more storage now.
For India expect the same engines but worldwide while the 1.0 EcoBoost 3-cylinder remains, there is a 2.0 4-cylinder with AWD. There is very little chance that this engine will make it along with AWD. However one thing that will is that the current automatic gearbox will be replaced by a conventional 6-speed one.
