Suffice to say, 2016 was a tough year for car-makers, especially the luxury car-makers who faced numerous challenges like the diesel ban. Despite these factors, Mercedes-Benz it seems has maintained its leadership position by posting annual sales crossing 13,000 units-for the second time in a row. Between January to December 2016 period, it sold 13,231 units which is marginally less than 13,502 units for the same period in 2015.
Do keep in mind that 2016 saw an 8 month diesel ban in Delhi NCR plus factors like high excise duty, rising prices and demonetization effect. Most of the growth came from the SUV portfolio and of course sedans like the C-Class. The C-Class continues to be its best-selling car while the GLE is the best selling SUV. 2017 will see the new E-Class launching soon in March which is without doubt its most important launch for this year.
