French car firm Renault has just launched a special version of the Kwid, called the Kwid Climber, in the Indian market. Priced at INR 4.30 lakhs, this car, with its tough and outdoorsy looks, was first showcased to us at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo held at Greater Noida. The AMT-equipped version of the car will cost INR 4.60 lakhs (all prices are ex-showroom figures).
From the images, it is clear to see that Renault is going for the rugged look with the Kwid Climber. The car has been designed and developed at the Renault design studios in Mumbai and Chennai. The hatchback gets a different bumper from that fitted to the standard Kwid, a faux skid plate, orange wing mirror housings, the word Climber stamped on the front doors and, for the first time, alloy wheels on a Kwid variant. The inside of the car also gets some cosmetic upgrades. Orange accents are present everywhere from surrounding the centre console, on the seat fabric, around the AC vents and on top of the gear lever in the manual version.
The Renault Kwid Climber continues to get features such as a 7 inch MediaNav touchscreen infotainment system with built-in navigation, a 12 volt socket, a manual AC, speed dependent volume control, a digital instrument binnacle, power windows at the front, and central locking, amongst others. On the powertrain front, the Kwid Climber comes equipped with the now familiar 1.0 litre, 3 cylinder petrol engine that produces 67 bhp, and a 5 speed manual or AMT automatic gearbox. As an added incentive, the Kwid Climber returns an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of 23 kpl.
