The Compass would make its India debut on the 12th of this month and this is indeed a big moment considering the Compass is among the most talked about launches in India. The launch is still a few months away but on the 12th we will get a look at the India spec RHD car and of course a look at what is the engine line-up and features. We already have had a good look at the Compass and even driven it (overseas market LHD version) but the big question is regarding its price and positioning. To be assembled at the Fiat Ranjangaon facility in Pune, the Compass is expected to be priced aggressively.
We have discussed the styling earlier but being based on the Grand Cherokee gives it a pukka SUV look which is an advantage with healthy ground clearance. In terms of size it is near the Tucson and bigger than the Creta. The interior similarly is rugged but will be feature loaded.
We want to talk here price and with localisation levels we expect it to be cheaper than rivals and while no official word is out regarding the expected price or positioning we can guess it will start from below Rs 20 lakh with the top-spec 4x4 AT being well below rivals at below Rs 25 lakh. We will of course not know the price on on 12th instead get the info on the spec and features a bit. We expect the 1.4-litre manual to start the range with the 2.0 diesel AT 4x4 being the flagship model. So there you go come April 12th and we will get to know a lot about the most awaited launch from Jeep.
