Jeep will launch its much awaited Compass SUV in August and unofficially some dealers have started accepting bookings. The Compass made its India debut in April and recently production started at the Ranjangaon facility. This is the first Jeep to be made in India and FCA has invested a lot with plans to export the Compass to other RHD markets.
Variants and features
For India the Compass will have three trims- Sport, Latitude and Limited. All variants would be well equipped and have generous equipment levels. Top-end trims will have a 7-inch UCONNECT touchscreen while there is also dual-zone climate control with rear ac vents, Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED signature, leather seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear view camera, cornering lamps, Select Terrain system with different modes in the 4x4 models, plus standard would be Hill Start Assist, ESC, dual airbags while top-end models will have 6 airbags.
While engine options would be a 2.0 MultiJet diesel and a 1.4 MultiAir turbo petrol. The petrol will be available in either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT while the diesel will only have a 6-speed manual. Expect a diesel automatic later this year. The numbers of the diesel ar 170 bhp and 350Nm while the petrol develops 160 bhp and 250Nm. Both the diesel and petrol engines are available with 4x2 and 4x4. In total there would be five colour options- Hydro Blue, Exotic Red, Brilliant Black, Vocal White and Minimal Grey.
Pricing is crucial and while we will know that next month we believe Jeep will give us a shocker of a price. Yes we believe it is plotting a very competitive price around Rs 17 lakh starting while the top-end 4x4 diesel will be Rs 25 lakh. Localisation will enable Jeep to price it a notch below direct rivals.
