Hyundai is all set to launch the new generation Verna (also called as Solaris in other markets) in a few days time. The new Verna will rival the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz amongst others. While it looks like a shrunken Elantra and which is no bad thing, Hyundai has worked extensively to remove the shortcomings of the previous model. More than that it is betting big on the sedan space and hopes volumes will increase.
Off late there is little guess in where most of the action is taking place and launches in the sedan space have dried up particularly in the above 4m space. Hyundai sees potential and the Verna with competitive pricing could take a large slice of the Honda City/maruti Ciaz pie while the remaining consists of cars like the Vento and Rapid. The new Verna is longer, wider and with a longer wheelbase there is more room. Inside too there is a touchscreen and all the features you expect. Thus while SUVs are popular and shift has been seen with buyers, sedans will always be important with a loyal fan-following and steady numbers. Thus Hyundai bets it will score a big success with the new Verna.
