Kia Motors had some time back announced its plans for the Indian market. With an US$1.1 billion investment agreement for establishment of manufacturing plant in India, Kia Motors would come to India in an aggressive way. At its Andhra Pradesh facility, Kia plans to make a compact SUV and sedan for the Indian market with a launch in 2019. For kick starting its India operations, it is holding dealer roadshows in major cities.
At the show many current Kia cars were showcased to prospective dealers including the new Kia Rio hatch, Picanto, Cerato, Sportage, Niro and Sorento. Now out of all these cars the Picanto and Rio make the most sense as well as the Sportage SUV. The Picanto is a small hatch and will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 while the Rio is a premium hatch to rival the Baleno and Elite i20.
The Sportage is a big SUV and would fit in perfectly considering our love affair with SUVs. The new age Kia cars are sportier and more aggressive plus Kia will enter in full force and invest heavily in brand promotions before launching its cars. Its main aim is to be the biggest competitor to the likes of the current heavyweights like Maruti and Hyundai.
