The Rs 10- 20 lakh SUV space is hotting up and all sorts of new launches are coming soon. The Hyundai Creta is an example of fantastic product positioning and that is why it is among the most popular SUVs at this price point. However the Jeep Compass which is priced more is currently having all the limelight but more are coming in form of the Renault Captur and Maruti S-Cross facelift. First let us clarify, the S-Cross like the Creta would be priced lower than the Compass but customers in this price bracket will see all these as rivals.
The S-Cross facelift is expected to be launched next month and will carry significant cosmetic tweaks. The front is completely changed and more aggressive with a new grille and headlamps which are of course projectors with LED DRLs. The rear also gets minor tweaks while it is the same story inside with more features. Maruti will drop the 1.6 diesel instead there will be the 1.3 diesel only with a manual gearbox.
From Renault the Captur is also expected for a festive season launch. This is actually different to the Euro spec model with called as the Kaptur. The Captur for India would be aggressively priced and is based on the Duster platform with also sharing its engines but they will be tweaked and have more power. While the Duster is a rugged SUV, the Captur would be a crossover to target the Compass and Creta plus the S-Cross with plusher interiors and more features. The styling is the key element and it looks similar to the euro spec model. It will have a contrast roof, a large touchscreen- all the features to take on the current segment rulers. Thus for buyers it will get more enticing come festive season.
