We are getting the new Swift at the 2018 Auto Expo but we do hope Maruti considers bringing in this- the new Swift Sport also. While we have the Baleno RS, the Swift Sport is more hardcore and with the Swift brand being hugely popular, a more performance focussed version will have takers since the brand of the Swift name is so strong. At the Frankfurt Motor Show we had the chance to see the car in the flesh and boy were we impressed. First the basics. The new Swift Sport weighs just 970kg which 80kg down compared to the previous version.
However there is more power as the 1.4 BOOSTERJET turbo petrol makes 140 horses and 230Nm with a 6-speed manual as standard. This is delicious stuff. Thanks to the new platform it is rigid and more exploitable. Despite being lighter the new Swift Sport is actually bigger plus the car is lower and wider. It is aggressive looking also with a new grille, bumper, new foglamps, blacked-out A-pillars, rear spoiler, 17 inch wheels etc.
Inside due to a longer wheelbase there is more space now plus we like the red interior accents of course the dials have contrasting colours, and new boost and oil temperature gauges. There are even semi-bucket shape front seats. We have to say with its attention grabbing paint job, the Swift Sport has been one of our favourites of the show and we hope Maruti considers it for our market, yes it will not be cheap, but as a brand value enhancer, this is brilliant and enthusiasts will queue up for it.
