If Audi has been the largest selling luxury car brand in India then A4 has a major role to play in it. A4 has always been one of the best-selling sedans of Audi in India. In the coming year, Audi will take a step forward and will launch the next generation of A4. The diesel versions of A4 have particularly been the favorites of Indians whereas the petrol variants have also found fair amount of buyers here. In this article, we try to dig deep to explore the reasons behind the success of this car in India.

Powertrain & Performance

A4 is available with four engines; two each of petrol and diesel. The smaller petrol engine is the 4-cylinder, 1.8L TFSI engine which has a power and torque output of 170bhp and 320NM respectively. Both these figures are achieved at 3800rpm and 1400rpm respectively. This engine is mated with a CVT transmission. The bigger V6 petrol engine produces a massive power output of 328bhp@ 5500rpm while its torque output is of 440Nm which arrives at 2900rpm. Audi serves this engine with a 7-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0L TDI engine is a four cylinder, DOHC diesel engine which pumps out a power output of 174bhp @4200rpm and a torque figure of 380Nm which can be achieved at 1750rpm. This engine is equipped with a CVT transmission while the bigger; 3.0L diesel unit is mated with a 7-speed automatic transmission. This V6 cylinder diesel engine comes with hefty power and torque output of 245bhp and 500Nm which arrives at 4000rpm and 1400rpm respectively. Both 3.0L petrol and diesel engines are blessed with Audi's Quattro system which makes them brilliant all round performers.

Build & Styling

Three dimensional bonnet, Xenon headlights with daytime running LEDs and wide front grille are the biggest contributors to the aggressive face styling of A4. The edgy lines and low slung face makes this car look extremely dynamic when it——s on move. Move to the side and you will notice the bigger 17-inches alloy wheels and prominent body lines on this car which gives it the much needed aerodynamic appearance. Wider LED tail lamps have always been one of the biggest USPs of A4 while the next generation is likely to feature a trunk spoiler to further enhance its sporty look at the back. The bright dual tone interiors of A4 are the most attractive interiors in its class. High class fabric and material used inside this car add the premium feel to its cabin. A4 offers sufficient amount of leg room and head room for all its passengers and comes with a loading capacity of 480 liters which is a bit disappointing though keeping its competitor——s capacity in mind. As far as features are concerned, A4 features MID screen, cruise control, Audi drive select, leather upholstery, 8-way adjustable electrically adjustable driver seat with memory function, panoramic sunroof, rain sensing and auto headlights, multi-function steering wheel,3-zone climate control and an integrated music system with Bluetooth connectivity and CD player compatibility. Safety features in A4 includes rear parking camera with sensors, dual front, side and rear airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, ESP and Traction Control system.

Every variant of A4 is very well feature equipped and the latest addition of the powerful diesel engine has further made the choice easier for the diesel lovers in India. From styling to build quality and from fit and finish to performance, A4 justifies each and every penny which Audi asks you to spend on it. Moreover, the next generation of A4 is not too far either and looking at its current generation, we can surely expect things to get even better in future.
