Audi R8 Spyder Review

Audi R8 Spyder, the sports car which takes off its hard roof to look more stylish and to let the driver enjoy the thrill of high-speed driving in open air came down to Indian market in 2011. The automobile has been fancied for its beauty and the performance it delivers with the massive engine sophisticated to draw out more power. Coming out designed from the quattro GmbH, Audi R8 Spyder is simply a sensation when it comes to speed, agility and grace. The interior too is built with inspiration from racing cars so that the driver can bind with the car seamlessly and get the best out of every drive.

The soft-top convertible sports car comes with a host of colours for inlays, leather upholstery and exterior body as well. Soft-top fabric too has three colour options namely black, brown and red.

Powertrain & Performance

Audi has equipped the R8 Spyder with a new 4.2L FSI engine which works with direct injection technology and High-Rev Concept. It is a 4163 cc motor which is capable of delivering 414.4 bhp @ 7800 rpm. The torque delivered comes out with a punch raising high till mid rpm range where it reaches its maximum of 430 Nm @ 4500-6000 rpm. The automobile accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds because of this torque delivery. The top-speed of this lightweight sports car comes out to be 301 km/h. The 6-speed manual gearbox is designed to suit the behaviour of the engine.

The shock absorbers in suspension system are tuned for sportiness and agility giving superior control and confidence to driver at all speeds and on different types of roads.

Build & Styling

Audi R8 Spyder stands a class apart when it comes to aerodynamics and elegance. The front of the car has aggressively designed bumper, striking headlamps and a classy finish to bonnet making up for a muscular and sporty stance which is further extended by bulky wheel arches in the front. The low windscreen angle and the aerodynamically carved side body strengthen the personality of the automobile adding to its swiftness. Rear is perhaps the highlight when it comes to design because it houses a fabric top within a flat base. This top can be put to position or left back simply with the push of a button. There is a rear spoiler which comes to position automatically at high-speeds. Air outlets with aluminium finish, tail lamps and circular exhaust pipes give a stunning look to the rear of the soft-top convertible.

Seats and ergonomics gain highest importance in the R8 Spyder which put together a cockpit that inspires a driver to take on the road. The sports car’s seats are engineered so well that they provide a suitable driving posture to every driver and this happens with the push of a button. The cabin has an automatic AC and audio system which delivers special effects to suit the sporty drive. There is also a Bluetooth interface with steering mounted control buttons so that the driver can completely focus on the drive without having to lift his hand from steering wheel. There is some luggage room at rear which can be sufficient to load small bags.

Audi R8 Spyder gets a Space Frame structure for better strength and rigidity. Active Roll-over Protection makes sure that passengers are safe when the soft-top car rolls over. Technological systems like Anti-Slip Regulation, Anti-lock Braking System and Electronic Stability Control give better command over driving reducing the possibilities of danger while there are airbags and safety steering column to protect driver and passenger if a collision takes place.
