Taking efficiency and power to a different level, BMW has launched the new 7 Series ActiveHybrid in India at an eyebrow raising price of INR 1.35 crores. The car promises to use extremely fuel efficient, eco friendly technology without compromising on power-packed performance. Let us explain to you in detail how this energy saving technology translates into a power burst when required.

Powertrain & Performance

The new ActiveHybrid 7 is powered by a 3.0 litre, Twin Power turbocharged, in-line six-cylinder petrol engine that produces a power output of 315 bhp at 6000 rpm. The utmost torque output of this petrol engine is of 450 Nm which is available from as low as 1300 rpm. For temporary support, the car is also powered by a 40 KW electric motor and these two petrol and electric motors are co-ordinated by a lithium-ion high performance battery. By using the Boost function, the electric motor automatically adds to the power of the petrol engine which is felt best while overtaking without increasing the fuel consumption. In hybrid mode, the car sprints from 0-100 kph in 5.8 seconds with a combined torque output of 500 Nm. The lithium ion battery recharges while the car is on the move and can cover a distance of four kilometers in pure electric mode without generating any emissions at all. The car can reach an electronically controlled top speed of 250 kph. The lightweight body construction, auto start/stop function and brake energy regeneration contributes to the fuel efficient and dynamic performance of this car. This hybrid sedan comes equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission which can be driven in four different modes ——— Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ by using the driver experience control switch. In Eco Pro mode, the car alters its settings to maximize fuel efficiency while the power is best felt in the Sport+ mode.

Build & Styling

The new ActiveHybrid 7 follows the modern styling language of BMW featuring latest adaptive LED headlights at front which looks simply dynamic with newly appointed typical BMW kidney grille slats. The massive air-inlets, sharp lines and chrome finishing on the front apron further enhance the macho and aggressive styling of this car. This BMW rides on 19 inch alloy wheels with exclusive lettering at the back and on the C-pillar. You can also choose for the optional 20 inch wheels. BMW offers the ActiveHybrid 7 with their latest features such as BMW Heads-Up display, BMW iDrive, BMW Navigation professional with hard drive storage and a 25.5 cm display for the front passengers. You also get folding tables at the back, massage function in the rear seats, a four-zone automatic air conditioning and optional rear seat entertainment package which includes individual 23.3 cm display screens with BMW ConnectedDrive and a personal iDrive Controller. The car also comes standard with Park Assistant, all around camera system, BMW night vision, Active protection, message dictation, park air conditioning and much more.
