By   |  January 20, 2015

Maruti Suzuki, the highest seller of cars in India has come up with the new Swift Dzire. It was launched way back in 2008 and the car was an instant success from the very beginning. This model did not enjoy the excise benefit as it was not less than 4 metres in length, but since the previous generation, the company has shortened its length so that it could be priced at a lower amount. The Swift Dzire is loaded with a good number of features, aesthetic looks and nice interiors. The Swift Dzire is available in the following variants: LDi, VDi and ZDi in diesel and LXi, LXi (O), VXi and ZXi in petrol.

Powertrain and Performance

The Swift Dzire provides a choice of two engines. The 1.2 litre, 4 cylinder K-Series petrol engine with VVT churns out a power output of 83 bhp, slightly less than before but, it delivers an increased fuel economy figure of 20.85 kpl. The maximum torque it can deliver is 114 Nm. The 1.3 litre, 4 cylinder DDiS diesel engine puts out 74 bhp and a maximum torque of 190 Nm @ 2000 rpm. The fuel economy of this new diesel engine is significantly more than its predecessor, at 26.59 kpl. The ECU software has been modified and the operating friction has been reduced for improved fuel economy. While buyers of the diesel version can only get a 5 speed manual gearbox, customers who purchase the petrol version have the option of a 5 speed manual gearbox and a 4 speed automatic transmission. The suspension system of the Swift Dzire consists of McPherson strut with coil springs at the front and a torsion beam with coil springs at the rear which imparts a higher mounting rigidity. The Swift Dzire has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.

Build and Styling

Maruti Suzuki has made changes to the design of this car but all the modifications come together to make the car look better than before. At the front, there is a wide band of chrome within the front grille and the front bumper itself is aln all new unit. It has a high mounted stop lamp, front foglamps, rear foglamp and all other features that a car in its segment should have. The foglight housings themselves have chrome accents on the sides. The boot is integrated into the rear section of the vehicle well and gives a nice finish to the car. Customers can also choose from new exterior paint colour options. The interior of the Swift Dzire is well appointed and comes equipped with power windows, remote locking, new seat upholstery, 12 volt outlets at the front and rear, push button engine ignition, electrically adjustable and foldable rear view mirrors, push button engine ignition, an audio system with bluetooth compatibility, climate control and so on. In the way of safety, it gets airbags for both front occupants, ABS with brake assist (BA), engine drag control (EDC) and rear parking sensors.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire was an instant hit right from the time it was launched and this was no fluke. The car is comfortable, equipped with a good list of features, performs well and is extremely practical. The company has just tweaked the aspects of the car that needed improvement without fiddling with the rest of the vehicle and wrecking it. With the new facelifted model, the Swift Dzire will continue its strong performance in the Indian car market for a long time to come.
