Built with a sense of purpose is one simple way to describe the Nissan Evalia. The Japanese automotive company has seen some success in its short journey in India. With an aim to work on this success and expand its hold on the market, Nissan has brought Evalia to reach out to more and more people. Nissan Evalia has some notable features like good mileage, vast interior space and good safety systems which can impress the Indian customers.

Nissan Evalia is available in four different variants i.e. XE, XE+, XL, XV and XV Option; and a range of colours which are Aqua Green, Brick Red, Titanium Grey, Blade Silver, Onyx Black, Storm White and Pearl White. The car has a ground clearance of 180 mm. Built with body coloured bumpers, rear-view mirrors and door handles the exterior looks bold and smooth with not many cuts and curls. All the windows are given a black outline but yet are open enough for light. The XV model gets alloy wheels and all other models get wheel cap which look stylish. With standard build on the outside and quality make on the inside Nissan Evalia is a perfect package for an Indian family.

Powertrain & Performance

Nissan Evalia is equipped with a 1461 cc, 4-cylinder diesel engine which makes use of a common rail for fuel injection. The maximum power delivered is 85 bhp at 3750 rpm. The peak torque of the engine is 200 Nm at 2000 rpm. Evalia performs well in the lower and mid range speeds and hence can be a very good commuter within the city limits. The engine is mated with 5-speed manual transmission.

Hydraulic system is used for braking requirements of this car. An Anti-lock Braking System provides effective braking while the electronic brake distribution (EBD) system supports the ABS. Break Assist is additional equipment which would aid the driver by applying brake whenever there is a need while diving.

The wheels at front get McPherson Strut type suspension with coil spring and the rear ones are supported over leaf springs. The steering wheel gets power assistance through an electric source. Although the Evalia is slightly large in size the turning radius is 5.2 m which makes it easy to drive on narrow city lanes.

Build & Styling

Nissan Evalia stands tall, has a lengthy wheelbase and a large bumper is the first thing that comes to notice when viewed from the front. There is a chrome line under the black radiator grill at front which carries the brand name Nissan. The second doors are of sliding type and there is access to boot space through a rear door.

In the interior, the front dashboard is beautifully designed with dual colours. There is a multi information display that gives information like fuel consumption at current speed, gear shift indicator, etc. All the models get fabric upholstery for their seating and all the seats can be adjusted for inclination position to get better comfort. The 2nd row seats can be folded down to give access for the passengers to 3rd row seats. A manual air conditioner with vents located on dashboard and at the sides on the rear.

A selection of new features have been added to the vehicle like split Euro windows on the sliding doors, sliding and reclining captain seats in the middle row, 15 inch alloy wheels, a 2-DIN audio system with USB connectivity, rear wiper & defogger, anti-glare cabin rear view mirror and a roof-mounted AC unit that comes fitted from the dealership itself.

The safety features present in Nissan Evalia are dual airbags, front fog lamps, high mount stop lamps, inside rear-view mirror, ABS with EBD and BA, engine immobiliser and central locking system.

Up until recently, very few options were available to people who had a large number of people to transport or a heavy load of cargo to ferry around. But now, there are a number of vehicles vying for supremacy in this segment. The Evalia needs as much firepower as possible to stand a fighting chance to stay on as a contender. Its looks may not have created a lot of fans for it but appearances aside, the Evalia is a very practical and functional vehicle for the purposes it was designed to fulfil.
