Volvo V40 Cross Country Review

The V40 Cross Country, from the stables of Volvo, is an embodiment of bold, sporty and innovative character. The vehicle is the most affordable Volvo car in India which comes with a price tag of around Rs. 25 lakh. It is loaded with many features like knee airbags, external airbags, rear alert and rear-view mirror has the auto dim feature. One of the innovative features, personal car communicator (PCC), combines keyless drive with two-way communication with your car. This is an advanced remote control that you can keep with yourself and the car unlocks automatically as you pull the door handle. You can start the engine by pressing a button on the dash and lock the car by pressing a button in the door handle. Later in the day, no matter where you are, if you do not remember whether you’ve locked the car, PCC can tell. The PCC information button gives a current report on its lock and alarm status within a radius of 60 to 100 metres. The silver roof rails lend a classy look to the car. The car is available in many exciting hues.

Powertrain & Performance

The Volvo V40 Cross Country is equipped with 1984 cc 5-cylinder D3 turbo diesel engine that churns out 150 bhp @ 3500 rpm and a peak torque of 350 Nm. The engine is coupled to six-speed Geartronic transmission. The fuel tank capacity is 60 litres and the fuel consumption from the engine stands up to 6.8 litres / 100 km within city limits, 4.3 litres / 100 km on highways and 5.2 litres / 100 km (Mixed). The engine has the Start/Stop function along with braking energy regeneration. This feature helps in restoring the energy which is lost while braking and can be used to power the headlights or air conditioner. The all-aluminium powerhouse designed with VGT can accelerate the car from 0 to 100 km/h mark in 9.3 seconds. The performance characteristic of the engine is finely coupled with the accuracy of the gearbox which picks up power to deliver the best driving experience.

Build & Styling

The Volvo V40 flaunts masculine body lines, sophisticated bends and bold cuts that impart an elegant new look to this car. The active head beam, LED daytime running lights and adaptive brake lights lend a classy look to the vehicle. The heated and electrically adjustable outer mirror, retractable outside rear-view mirrors and headlight washer system enhance the exterior. The specifically crafted turn-with-steering lights illuminate the path ahead. The rear is hexagonal in shape. The black tinted rear windscreen enhances the rear looks. The car rests on 16-inch alloy wheels that impart robustness to the vehicle.

The interior is spacious and is adorned with premium upholstery. The boot is big enough to secure all the luggage. The ergonomically designed seats with the lumbar support provide comfortable drive. The driver seat gets a memory function. It has remote – controlled central locking system, automatic door locking system, global locking and closing option, personal car communicator (PCC), remote controlled alarm and theft protected locks.

The Volvo V40 Cross Country is outfitted with highest safety standards without compromising on comfort.
